The milestone Brown vs. Board of Education decision ended school segregation on the basis of race. As one of the most significant legal decisions of the 20th century, it set the foundation for later rulings and legislation that secured education as a civil right for all students. It was a catalyst for expanding the 1950s civil rights movement and the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which protects the civil rights of all students, particularly related to areas of race, national origin, sex, and religion.
Join the Western Educational Equity Assistance Center (WEEAC) at WestEd for a fireside chat with leading educators and scholars who will speak to the enduring legacy and promise of the Brown decision and the Civil Rights Act.
This session is designed specifically for participants who are serving in the following roles: school, district, local education agency (LEA), tribal, local, county, state, and federal agency personnel, advisory, board, and council members.
